I have a International dump truck with a 5 speed transmission & 2 speed rear end the transmission shifts like a warm knife moving through soft butter.
I just purchased a Ford dump truck with the Eaton Fuller 8LL transmission, damm truck transmission will not go into the gears! Even if stopped and trying to shift through the gears there is ristance going into the gears.
Does any one have any idea what has to be adjusted to correct this transmissions shifting?
I am asking here first before I take it to a truck repair shop and shell out several hundred dollars for some thing I can fix myself with your suggestions.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Really a frustrated Robert.

Robert, The 9-speed Fuller is an unsynchronized transmission, so it won't go into gear nearly as easy as your 5-speed (probably a Spicer). You have to have the RPM's and road speed "synchronized" to find the right gear when you are going down the road, and you have to feather the clutch a little when at a dead stop. It takes practice - LOTS of practice. I drive a dump truck every day that has a 13-speed Fuller, and missing a gear (especially at slow speeds) is not a rarity. It is something you will have to work at, but don't get frustrated. The best way I have found to shift is without using the clutch. Most truck drivers will tell you the clutch is just a "start and stop button". If it grinds when you push in the clutch and try to get it in gear at a stop, you need to have the clutch brake adjusted, or replaced. Otherwise, it sounds like an ol' Fuller. Keep working at it - you'll have it down in no time. Good luck!
