Have a 1940 T6 been sitting out for about 6 years, runs good, but won't steer in either direction, foot brakes work, but will not steer, I believe the steering clutch discs are rusted together, is there an easy way to loosen or do I have to dismantle the machine to repair, thank you.

Soaking in kerosene didn't work, what has to be dismantled to get to the clutches to free them up, are they accessable from the top or do I have to tear apart fron the side, tracks and all, thanks for the help.

Ben, I have had good luck in the past soaking the clutches in kerosene, and then running the tractor until they come loose. You will need to run it under a load, and you may need to tighten them up as you do this, but they should come loose. Once they break loose, drain the kerosene, then run it (under load) until the clutches and brakes dry out completely (they should not grab or slip, but operate smoothly). This usually works quickly - within a couple hours typically. If that doesn't do it, it's probably time to get out the ol' toolbox. Good luck, and keep us posted!
