A friend asked to help him get his old JD 420 gas running after sitting a couple of years. He's planning to sell it, so he doesn't want to purchase the manual. So what I need is some basic tune up info. Point gap, plug gap, valve adjustment, and timing info. The location of the timing marks would be helpful, haven't had a lot of experiance with the two cyls.

I just worked on one of those a few days ago- I'm by no means an expert as it was the first one (and hopefully the last) I've seen. The point gap was .022. The thing was so worn out though that I could wobble the distributor shaft back and forth and sometimes it wouldn't start with the points set to .022 'cause they weren't always closing. I ended up setting them to .015 and it would start every time. I think the spark plug gap was .015... don't remember for sure. I didn't mess with the timing.
