Case 450B doesn't push well when hot

I have a '88 450B crawler and there are two things that it does. When first put into gear it takes about 10 seconds for the transmission to actually engage. The other thing is after heavy pushing for about an hour it will start to lose pushing power but not lose it completely. I recently rebuilt the torque converter (cracked housing). I did it twice to make sure I didn't miss something. The charge pump is pretty new and I have checked all the suction hoses and filters. The transmission fluid is not foamy due to cavitation as far as I can tell. Our other dozer has the same cold problem with it taking a few seconds to go after putting it in gear but it pushes like a monster even when hot. (it's a lot older too)

Jon,
I am asumming that your torque converter has the proper amount of oil ? If the oil in my 350 case dozer gets low it will do just what you are describing. I only let it happen once and now I keep a close eye on it.

Yes, I checked the fluid levels. Another operator has told me that it seems like it drops out of gear completely and that it feels like it's in neutral. After cooling for a short time, it works fine until the next time.

What are the gauges reading for Torque Converter Pressure, Torque Converter Temp, and Transmission Oil Pressure before and after you notice a loss of transmission power?

John

The operator told me that the torque converter temp did get up near the red but the pressure was good. The trans pressure guage is broken. There isn't a total loss of push and the engine is running normal.

One more thing the transmission only hesitates to engage right after a cold startup.
