excavator vs. dozer with rock rake?

Looking for advice on the best kind of machine to hire for clearing about 3 acres of land jam-packed with boulders 1-5 ft in diameter, and small stumps. I cut over some woodland to improve a view and want to be able to maintain it long run with a bush hog. Will a big dozer with a rock rake be more effective than an excavator with a thumb? I don't want to waste much soil, as there isn't much to begin with. Previous excavator operator said he had never seen so many boulders. Hard to find dozers with rock rakes near my site in Madison, NH. Thanks for any advice.

This question was asked earlier in yr. Was split between those that have run track hoes & those that haven't.

I have run track hoe. Only way to go. Operator can pick rocks leave dirt.

I still think dozer would be better for buried rocks. Track hoe would be nice way to load piles of rock the dozer digs up with rake. Have you ever seen east coast piles of rock every were.

just get the dozer in there ,bacause in due time you will probley have to do it again after several freeze thaw cycles push more up i think the whole east coast is one large rock . never saw such piles of rocks pilled up all over most farms

Without seeing the site,I'd say the excavator...purely because it doesn't have to constantly run over the site like a dozer would. The excavator can sit in one spot & clean up a good area before re-positioning itself.
Running over rocky ground in a dozer is bad for client, dozer & operator. Also,be careful of how much more rock is under the surface...you may clean the surface now...only to find more rocks coming up in 4 years time.Hopefully, you'll get more advice on this question.....
