Cat D4 - no oil pressure what year

Help! I just purchased an old Cat D4 which sat outside in Michigan but well covered for 6 years. The SN is 7u4907 on both the engine & dozer. First, anyone know what year this thing is?

Had no trouble getting the pony motor started and then the big diesel. But I can't get any oil pressure. Ran the diesel probably 45 seconds w/o any oil pressure & no oil to the head. Took the oil filter cannister top off and the filter housing wasn't even full.

Pulled the inspection covers on the pan and cleaned the pan out with mineral spirits. It looked very clean. The oil appeared slightly like gelatin in the bottom of the pan but nothing like I expected after 6 years. Removed the filter adapter from the engine block and flushed mineral spirits down through the block and, I believe, through the oil pump. Cleaned & checked the pressure relief valve in the filter adapter. Reassembled the pan and oil filter adapter & cannister, and filled the engine with oil to above the top of the pan. Cranked diesel with the pony (with good speed) for probably 2-3 minutes and still no oil even came into the oil filter cannister.

I can see the pump in there but I can't tell how it's supposed to drive. Can anyone fax or email me a copy from the manual showing how the pump is driven & how it goes together? Or, at least can someone explain how the pump is driven? How much oil pressure should this thing have? Any ideas would be very helpful! I am clearly missing a piece of the puzzle here!

Thanks,
John

I can tell you one thing, when you shut off the motor the filter canister drains out into the pan.It will be empty when you look at it. Thats why you check the oil with it running.
