My hydraulic pump is leaking badly. I will lose about 2-3 gals of fluid in 30 mintues or so. My question is, assuming nothing is cracked or broken, what is involved in rebuilding it? Approximately how much should I expect to spend? thanks for the help.

The seal kits for the little Cesna gear pumps used to be around $40. Keep in mind though - if you find that the shaft oil seal got pushed out of the pump - then the pump is not repairable. On the other hand, if it's still in place, and after inspection you find that the shafts and bushings are still tight, then you can probably get a lot more use out of the pump with the kit. When those pumps wear, they do so in the shaft-bushings and the smooth surfaces on the end-pieces where the gear-faces ride. If these areas wear or get scored, high pressure oil will leak past and push the front seal out - and there is no fix. Back in the early 70s, Deere sold all the replacement parts for the pumps, but in the late 80s Cessna stoped selling most individual parts - and subsequently, so did Deere. If your pump is shot, there are lots of good replacements available from wholesale or surplus companies. The 350 Dozer uses a 13 GPM pump and a 350 loader - or dozer with backhoe use a 23 GPM pump.

Thanks for the information...I appreciate it so much. You mention replacement pumps being available...where do you suggest I go to get one?

There are lots of places. One being www.surpluscenter.com One example is a 13 GPM Parker pump for $80 at >Link

You have to now the size pump (cubic inches or GPM flow rating), the direction it turns (clockwise or counter-clockwise), the mounting flange type (usually described as SAE 2,or 3, etc.), the shaft diameter and spline count or keyway type, and the port type (o-ring, pipe fitting, etc.). The 350 dozer uses a 13 GPM pump which is around one cubic inch, has an SAE two bolt mounting, and has a splined shaft. I don't remember if it's clockwise or counter-clockwise, you'll have to look. You don't have to buy a Cessna to replace it. Any gear pump will do as long as it's big enough, fits, and is rated for 3000 PSI. Often, places like the website I mention will charge more for pumps that are listed for direct replacement for Deere. You can't hurt anything by putting a bigger pump on the machine - but keep in mind with original Deere setups, a 13 GPM pump uses a smaller diameter pump drive than the optional 23 GPM setup.
