Does any one know how to go about purchasing a dozer or excavator in Japan and then having it imported into the USA? Any information would be appreciated.

Check with dealers some manufacturers will not sell parts to a machine with a serial number from overseas. If you know someone with same machine purchased in states use his serial #. Also overseas machines don't meet US safety requirements and probably not emissions either

I see lots of used Japanese machines at the construction equip. sales. Small Komatsu & Mitsubishi dozers are the most common. I assume they were imported recently, as all writing is in Japanese. My guess is that certain firms buy large lots of them & import them. With all the hassles such as Customs, duties, loading & shipping, etc, I doubt it would be worth the time & trouble to import one.

You start by calling Lou Dobbs at CNN, give your company name and he puts you on a list called "OUT-SOURCING AMERICA"....simple!

Gary, you make a good point. Should I tell Lou Dobbs at CNN about our beloved Caterpillar selling it's smaller dozers as it's own all the while they are simply rebadged Mitsubishi's? Just something to think about. Face it folks, the very American companies some of you so proudly stand by because they are "Made in the USA" are the biggest outsourcers there are - they just hope you don't have enough sense to figure it out. I have a small, Mitsubishi BD2G and I love it. It is Japanese (and doesn't deny it as some do), works absolutely flawless for the job it was intended and gives me no trouble at all. To each his or her own.

Robert, I agree with your comment re:negative responses. In regard to importing a "grey market" machine, there have been several discussions on the Cat board (acmoc. com) on this subject. The consensus seems to be that parts are not available from Japan and part numbers are different than on USA machines, so the dealer cannot cross-reference. I have not seen any information about import requirements. Good luck, Pete

I HAVE BOUGHT AND SOLD IMPORTED CAT MACHINES FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
CAT DEALERS WILL TELL YOU THEY CAN,T GET PARTS. BULL.I HAVE NEVER WAITED OVER ONE DAY FOR A PART.
YES SOME EMMISION PROBLEM DO HAPPEN ON NEWSER MACHINES BUT NOT ON THE OLDER UNITS.
I WOULD AGREE THAT IT MIGHT BE BEST TO BUY HERE AS ALL THE PROBLEMS GETTING IT HERE ARE SOLVED.
LETS FACE IT WE ARE ON A WORLD MARKET. VOL. IN PRODUCTION WILL NOT LET YOU HAVE MANY CHAGES AND STILL MAKE MONEY.
