I have a few questions can any body help?
how does water get into the hyro system to start with?
do i have to drain the pistons and the hoses also
is the hydro system conected to the transmition or radator in any way?
the jd450 is a crawler loader with a back howe.

I purchased a Bobcat last summer that was in a flood and had the same problem. I can't tell you how water got in your system but I can tell you what I've done to cure my problem. I had to overhaul the engine to cure it. You might want to check the engine for problems too. But on the hydraulics here is what I did. 1. I drained and refilled the system twice.
2. I added a drain valve to a hydraulic line and used the system to pump itself out. I gathered the spent fluid into 5 gallon conatiners. I operated the hydraulics while I was pumping it out. You will not clear the cylinders if you don't. You must keep the fluid level up while you do this. Remember the system is under pressure, so use caution.
3. I added an inline filter called Aqua-Zorb. You can find them on the Web and they can refer you to a dealer. I got it from a hydraulics shop. The filter is designed to remove oil from water in hydraulic systems.
So far this seems to have been successful. Unfortunately I had back surgery just after I completed this project and have yet to test it out for the long range. I will not be able to test this out until next summer as I bought the Bobcat to do work on my vacation home in Colorado and the doctor will not let me do any real work until this summer is over. This is my first 'tractor' and maybe some of our more experienced guys can help you further. I hope all this helps you some. Good luck with getting all of the water out when I first thought I had all of it out there was still more, that's why I added the filter.
