Saw this on ebay. Seems to have a lot of work done on it. This appears to be atleast 30 years old and I cant see it being worth what he's asking. Looks like a nice dozer though. What do cats of this size and age rebuilt go for?

I'm no expert on old HD's, but I have been watching the value of machines of this vintage for about a year now. $50,000 starting bid is absolutely, completely ABSURD - a total fantasy. These old AC machines in good condition regulary sell for under $10,000 (many WELL under $10k). And he certainly lumped the paint on it concealing what it looked like before the paintjob and is very vague about anything that might (or might not) have been done to the undercarriage or tranny/finaldrives (and no pics of the sprockets or rollers).

I'd advise staying well clear at anywhere near that price....it's so absurd I almost wonder if it wasn't a typo. You can buy a very nice Cat 963 loader that's less than ten years old for about that price!

And beside the above, it is an earlier 21 with a 2100 engine(good engine) with dry clutches, mechanical adjusters. I bought my first 21 5 years ago, cable blade poor tracks, good mechanical for 4,000. I bought another 21A 3 weeks ago, tilt blade, Mark 2 engine, grease adjusters, wet back(clutches and brakes in oil), Heavy ROPS cab, pins and bushings turned 10 hours ago and excellent rails and pads, and good paint for 10,000. There are good 21s in Penn that can be bought for 10 to 15,000. It must be a typo error and he meant 5,000 or else he thinks people are dumb. Bob Ohio

Hi, JE. I live DownUnder in Australia so I'm hardly an expert on machinery prices in the U.S. but that starting bid seems a little high to me. I'd be interested to hear what people a little closer to the action think of it. It does look as if it's had at least a DULUX overhaul though.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
