The right rear drive on my JD 450 leaks gear oil. It appears to be a bad seal. How big a job is it to put in new seals and approximately what should it cost?

My dad has a problem with his 450c. Its will be pushing along & when it gets a good load of dirt in front you pull the hand brake to steer and the track lockes right up. Its like the brakes got put on theres no in-between clutch.

...have to break the track...remove the sprocket...remove the belly pan on the final drive..remove the small cover over the rear of the final drive to access the nut that holds the output shaft in place...fabricate a pusher device to push the output shaft from the bearings...catch the bull gear when it falls out after you press out the output shaft....then remove and replace the metal-face seals on the output shaft and CAREFULLY reassemble...or you can remove the entire final drive and work on it on its side....that way you are a little more in control of the operation .
