I am thinking of buying a small used skidsteer(cheap). Not sure what brands or models to look for. I would like one that had a small gas engines (Onan, Tecumseh, Kohler, ect), I work in a small engine shop and can get parts and work on these engines easy. Just want one for moving dirt, stone, snow, and making trails. What prices do these go for? What brands and models are better for getting parts for? Thanks for any help, Ash

I bought a Mustang 310 about 15 years ago .Real small loader , 800-900 lb capacity . It was best thing I ever bought ! gave 2800 for it . small enough to get into most backyards ,perfect for sidewalks. Overhauled the original 14hp kohler 2 times. Last time she lost a rod .Had an Onan 20 hp sitting in shop ,,made adapters here n there , works like a charm . can Haul it in back of pick up. From what I've seen in paper, machine around that size goes for 3200-4500 depends how new .

I appreciate the info on your Kohler, utility, overhauling, etc. I am looking at buying a small loader, something like that, and I had the same thoughts on the small size utility.
Thanks.

Ash: Bad news--"small", "cheap", and "skidsteer" don't usually appear in the same sentence. Because these machines are so versatile, everyone wants them, and the prices tend to reflect this. I paid $4,200 for mine--a 1989 New Holland L455 (20-odd HP Kubota 3-cylinder diesel with 1200 lb. lift capacity) and thought that was a bargain compared to the prices I'd seen on similar machines. If you do come on a cheap one, look it over very carefully--because of the extensive use of hydraulics on these, they can be VERY expensive to fix--the engine itself is probably the cheapest part to repair; the real money is in the drive system and pumps. Good luck with your search--I love mine, and they're an incredibly useful machine, but be prepared for sticker shock!

We have a New Holland Skid Steer L455. It runs but has no power either forward or backwards. I am looking for some troubleshooting information. Also hydraulic lift does not operate.
