TD-24 TD-25 Torque Converters

I've got a TD-25B with manual shift as well as a TD-24/241 parts machine that is also manual shift. The torque converter in the TD-25B is leaking fluid into the clutch housing quite severely, which the manual says is the input shaft O-ring and possibly the ground joint seals and bearings. It doesn't move under its' own power.

The converter in the TD-24 is in great shape with no leaks, and I've already pulled it. (The motor was frozen when I got it.) Both converters are made by Twin Disc, but the TD-24 converter's tag shows a lower torque rating than the TD-25B's - by 105 pounds. Do I dare swap them out since I'm in need of the machine yesterday, or locate the parts for the original converter and rebuild it? With fire season breathing down on me locally, I can't afford to have this thing down for long.

If anyone has a seal kit for this converter, I'd sure like to get one. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much - you possibly don"t still have a part number by chance would you?

I"ll go and check out the Komatsu dealer rght now.

Thanks Sid - I'd like to learn as much as I can. I've been studying the manuals and parts books, as well as talking to the folks at Twin Disc.

Twin Disc tells me that the two converters have different torque ratings, with the TD-24 unit having less torque. The two units interchange physically behind the flywheel, but the performance would be less with the older converter. How much? I don't know. The parts to fix the TD-25 converter cost ~$700.

I guess it boils down to how much do I want to spend versus how many times do I want to remove and install this unit from the machine? At this point, I'm leaning toward putting the TD-24 converter in the dozer just to get it back up and running (and making some money) while I gather up the seals for the correct converter. Swapping them out next time will be much quicker than this time was.

If anyone has ever swapped out a manual shift tranny for a powershift, I'd sure like to hear about it - since I've located a new tranny for cheap. Plus, the torque converter for the powershift uses hydraulic fluid rather than fuel.

Thanks to all for your help!

Bill, yours is an older Fuel torque. They where used in a few different makes back before the powershift tran came out. Cat used them too. The trick is to find anyone around that knows anything about them now.
Later Bob
