Well....she is all back together. Me and a buddy rebuilt the final drive on a Cat 955H. It was actually kind of fun...although I wouldn't want to do it everyday. The other side weeps a little oil but not enough to worry about yet. Thanks for the advice I got on this board..it definitely made the job easier.

Congratulations, always a learning experience. Just curious, what exactly did you have to replace? New parts or used? How much did it cost?
Thanks,

Well It started out as a leak....a bad leak...about a gallon a day. So I thought I had a bearing out. Called CAT they wanted 5000+ to do the job. Yeah Right!! Got out the torches and sledge had to make a couple of tools. Got it torn down. Luckily the bearings were not out just the seals and retainers. I replaced the bearings anyway since I was in there. All the gears were ok. Did all bearings and seals for about 700 bucks(bought parts from midwest machinery in KS). Biggest hold up was finding someone to press the blasted sprocket back on with 40 ton press.Anyway beats paying 5000+...It really wasn't that bad of a job. For that kind of savings I would do it again. Now she is dry as a bone.
