Hello,

I am looking for advise on a converter overheating problem that I am having with my Case 855C track loader. After about two hours the converter temp gets hot and the machine does not want to steer. All of the fluids and filters have been recently replaced. Also, can anyone tell me if the transmission fluid should be checked hot or cold? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

A shot in the dark would be for me to think of the cooler bypass valve that the larger Case unit's have I would say yours probably does too. It is just a crossover tube piped in the lines going to and from the cooler with a one way check valve in it and a spring in the valve that is supposed to open when the pressure reaches a certain level and it allows oil to bypass the cooler, supposedly to relieve the pressure of trying to pump alot of cold thick oil into the cooler. Personally I've never known of transmission oil to thicken up that much, but I live in Georgia too so our temp. may make a difference. And of course you could have internal torque conv. problems, does it seem to lose pulling power as well or just brakes? I dont think it makes a nickels worth of difference whether the oil is hot or cold when checked, hot oil will expand some but I'd rather see the oil at or a little above the full mark at all times.
