Started using my newly purchased Cat D7-17A. Cutting edge on the blade seems good. This is a cable unit. Sometimes it seems like the blade does not want to dig into the ground especially if it is sod. For ease of penetration should the blade be leaned forward or back at the top as far as possible? The adjusting screws do turn on each side. Seems like I have tried each way. One guy said to lean it forward while another said straight up and down. What is right????? I know hydraulic would help .... but like I said it is a cable machine. Thanks guys.

Pitch forward=more agressive.Harder to control if you don't have alot of seat time.Pitch back=less agressive, carries more material.Easier to control, grade with less experience.Run each side opposite(tilt),you can use the end to start,break-up the harder stuff.

It helps if you have a ripper on the back or available on another tractor to prepare the ground for a cable dozer. There is very little down pressure other than the weight of the blade.
