I have a Ford 555B TLB W/extendahoe. The extension is loose and needs new wear pads. What are these pads made of? Would UHMW Poly work(lot cheaper than the pads from NH), or are they some special Material. I know Sunflower uses UHMW as bearings on the lifts of their Wheel disc. Has anybody tried this or is it just a waste of energy.

Thanks for any input. Joe

Hi Joe, I own a 555 Ford and on mine the wear plates for the exstension are welded in place and I assume they are made of a softer metal (sacraficial) than the outer sleeve. I don't know if my set-up is the same as yours, being yours is a lot newer than mine. Hope this is some help.
Walter.

According to the book mine are bolted in. There are 4 pads. Each pad consist of the wear pad itself, and a set of shims. I have not had mine apare yet. I remember years ago reading that some of the pads were a bronze type of material. So I am not sure what mine are made of. I see where they are using the UHMY poly as guides on some other equipment. That is why I was wondering if it would work as pads for the extendahoe. Also, I can buy yhe material alot cheaper than the pads from NH. Joe

That would be the way to go on your unit Joe, my upper wear block is also bolted on but cannot see if the others are, my manual shows them as welded, but could be mistaken. You will have great luck with the material you are thinking of using as it is much the same material that they use as track runners on the snow machines. Good luck. Walter
