Which skidsteer would you buy?

I know this site is mainly for older equipment, but I haven't found a better site for good experience and advice. Looking at getting a skidsteer for both residential construction and around my farm. I have rented a wheeled John Deere, wheeled Bobcat and tracked Catepillar. The Caterpillar was, by far, the best machine because of the tracks and because it was easy to finesse (it could do the fine work and the heavy work with easy hand control verses the Bobcat and John Deere foot controls).

So, my question is more about long term maintenance and durability. What do you think would be best? Bobcat Txx series, Caterpillar 247 etc. or one of the other brands?

I owned a total of 6 skid-steers over the past 20 years, most of them New Holland and John Deere,[ of course New Holland made John Deere"s for a few years] I own a JD 250 right now, for a little more than a year, I had a NH LX150 before that, and could not get rid of it fast enough. There is a difference of night and day between the two, The John Deere is a much better machine. The NH was grief, very poor hydraulics, it took over a hour to change the oil filter. I found that over the past few years New Holland"s quality has gone down hill, not just their skid-steers, but on all their equipment, and the cost of repairs and parts have gone through the roof!!

Make certain you check the price for replacing rubber tracks.

Thanks to all. I checked out ASV and was very impressed with their products and history. Although I have not had the chance to try the Bobcat track versions, like the T200, I really liked the CAT tracked version. ASV also manufactures the track undercarriage for CAT, who owns 24.9% of ASV, so they have a close relationship.

We have a Cat skidsteer with the ASV track
system, and it totally rocks.

If money wasnt an object, thats what I'd buy...

I asked my cousin a similiar questions. He's owned and maintaned his own equipment 25 years. Quote: Small machines buy Case, large machines buy Cat.
Best wishes, Dennis.....

KEG,

I got a new Deere 250 last year and have about 120 hours on it now. It is used mainly for ranch use and I have a 4/1 bucket, grapel, and forks. Although I can't compare it to others, I don't have any complaints. It will do great finish work, move large logs and load a 10- wheeler. I do not have an opinion on maintenance or durability yet.

I can see a need for a track machine, although I have 3 crawlers and those suite my needs in steep conditions. If it's to muddy, well then I go fish'in. Good luck.

ASV 2810 tracked machine. CAT bot them out so they may be called CATs now.
