Can Anyone Tell Me Why The Injector Pump Gets So Hot???? This Is An 87 Model Dresser TD-7. Does A Hot Pump Cause The Engine To Run Rough?

It takes a lot of work to pump that fuel up to 10,000 + PSI. Heat is a by-product of work and friction. ( Are you using a fuel conditioner with lubricating properties to compensate for less sulphur in the fuel?) So, the pump gets hot. Not all bad, because the temperature of the fuel going through the pump is raised and therefore, atomizes and combusts more efficiently. It should not cause the engine to run rough unless it is so hot that it is boiling the fuel in the pump, which I"ve never heard of. P.S. Never hose down a hot operating injector pump unless you have bucks to burn. The very close tolerances can cause it to seize as the cooling metal contracts unevenly and way too fast. Good luck, Jim
