Hi,
Have a low pressure hydraulic pipe fitting that refuses to seal. Its OK for awhile but the leak has came back three times now. Tried pipe dope and teflon tape. Is a sealer available thats better for hydraulic oil? The seepage is slight but after 3 times I'm getting mad now....
Thanks, Dennis.....

Try Loctite PST pipe sealent with teflon. Made to seal hydraulic fittings. Stays flexible so it can withstand vibration. Works great.

Be sure that both metals are the same, steel to steel---brass to brass, use teflon tape, be sure that the threads are really pipe threads, and not a SAE straight thread to NPT thread match, or I should say mismatch. Look for a crack in the fitting or valve housing, if it still leaks then try JB weld or devcon metal putty. If all else fails then get a new valve or filter or what ever it is that is leaking.

if all else fails try so pipe dope called expando, you mix it with water then assemble pieces and let cure this always does the trick

I had the same problem with a control valve on my OC 4. I tapped it and it still leaked. I replaced the nipple and tapped it and it still leaked. Next I removed it, tapped it and J B welded it and it still leaked. Talk about being agitated! I next removed the nipple and inserted a hydraulic hose in it's place. Problem solved until I through a track. OH well!!!!! !!!!!

This may be far out, but are you absolutely positive that both components are really pipe threads? One side could be designed for a different kind of seal. Two other possibilities I can think of are that one of the threads might be really warn, as from once being mated with other than a matching pipe thread, or there is some torque on the joint that is causing one component to turn.

Both are 3/4 pipe fittings I bought at a local hardware when I added a return oil filter. The fittings are probably not the best quality. I can"t see anything wrong with them but I wouldn"t be suprised if I bought fittings from a local hydraulic shop and ended the leak. The pressure is around 20psi.
Thanks, Dennis.....

Dennis,

Loctite makes a product for hydraulic pipe fittings if you can find a distributor in your area for their products. Its kinda' red like threadlocker but its made for sealing threads.
