My 1993 Cat d5c has been operating perfectly but all of a sudden I noticed the tran or converter temp gauge at the red line. if you pull out the tran dipstick the oil is not hot although the filter housing is hot but not 265 degrees.the machine operates the same and no unusual noises are heard, I first thought the tran temp sender was bad so i changed it but the gauge still reads hot after only operating for about 15 min. The trans is a powershift and operates fine in all speeds. Can anyone suggest what to check next?

You can try replacing the gauge or try a mechanical guage instead. You may have a bad wire somewhere too.
