Hi Stew,
Do you recall how the JD 420 crawler did in the sale? It had a new starter in a box marked 1974, so I don't know if that was the last time it ran or not. But some talk was that the thing only needed points to be a runner.

I was there the day before, my wife was buying antique clothing. She said that prices were generally very high. There were some buyers to whom price is no object.

later!
Matt

I went to an auction last spring and watched used floor brooms sell for $20 ea. At the same sale they sold a 24 in. CHINA adjustable wrench(I wouldn"t be so low as to call it a CRESENT)for $140. You buy them in a set of 24, 20, 18 and 15 in. from Northern for $39. And it takes at least two idiots at a sale to make that happen.

Stew,

Auction prices are crazy lately. I went to an auction in CT the Saturday before last, and an OC-4 Oliver dozer brought the same - $6000! It didn"t even run. A second OC-4 brought $3500, and it had major engine problems.

Last Saturday, I went a farm auction in MA, where a cheaply made hay elevator, missing the motor, brought $625!

There is an awful lot of money around right now.

Be patient, a reasonably priced crawler will find you!

Regards,
Scott Goff

Skip,

D-8, 14A Cable blade, sick pony $2700
D-6, (had steering clutch problems)$2200
TD-20 $12,000 (nice dozer w/new U/C)

I was able to pick up a nice trowling machine, a surface grinder, some air greasers and some box lots. The box lots were NOS Oliver crawler parts...man, I hit the jackpot on those. Bearings, seals, old style battery cables, lots of engine, trans, final parts. Got it for $50.

Were you there?

Scott

Scott I stopped by to see if there was something I couldn't live without on my way to the lumber yard. I almost called my son Colin to ckeck out the chevy shortbed to see if he wanted it. Why do you think the olivers brought so much?

Skip,

There were two guys there that came prepared to buy them. I know them both.

One was a very serious Oliver/Cletrac collector from southern CT. He told me that he planned to go home with the tractors.

The other was a local young fellow and father, who planned to repair and use the tractors.

In the end, it was just the two of them bidding. The young fellow went home with both of the tractors. I saw him last week, and he has one of them running. Nice tractor, but an awful lot of money. Maybe I am just way behind the times!

Regards,
Scott
