All DG and B models had manual steering. The air assist did not start until the OC series and then only on the OC 15 and 18. Keep the steering brakes properly adjusted and extend the levers and they are not to bad to steering, but you do get a workout!

D,

Some of the later ones had air assist on the

steering brakes . Other post is correct ,

cletrac used controlled differential and

steering is by slowing one side and that speeds

the other side .

No real steering "clutches"... The machines have a rear differential with a band brake on each side for steering. Gotta REALLY pull on the levers to make"em turn... Guess these machines were built back in the days when men were MEN.. Runn"in one of"em for a few hours will really give ya a workout. On the bright side- no steering clutches to freeze/rust up from sitting.....

Oh oh! Guess I'm in trouble!

The band steering isn't that bad but band condition and adjustment makes a big difference. Mine needs new brake linings - turns one way are a snap, the other way is a two-hander!
