I have an old Bobcat M500 skidloader from the 60"s which needs an engine. I was going to search for a rebuilt Winsconsin VH4D, but have located a VF4 for a reasonable price. I was wondering what the horse power rating of this 4 cylinder is? I have also been told that I would have to figure out what to do about the variable speed pulley on the VF4. The VF4 has a hydrostatic drive bolted to the engine with a coupler. I would have to adapt a pulley to the shaft, and tighten the belt by adjusting the engine back with tension, allowing the speed to be governed by the engine, doing away with variable speed. Is the transplantation of the VF4 into my old Bobcat do-able? Anyone here every used the Wisconsin VF4 in a Bobcat? Any input is appreciated!

Brb72, The information I have on the engine in question, the VF4 depends on the RPM for the horsepower ranging form 17.2 hp @ 1400 RPM to 30.0 hp @ 2800 RPM this would be an atmospheric temperature of 60° Fahrenheit at sea level and at a Barometric pressure of 29.92 inches of mercury.

For each inch lower Barometer reading deduct 3 ½ % from the horsepower rating.

There is mention that the rotation of the crankshaft being clockwise when viewing the flywheel or cranking end of the engine. This gives counter-clockwise rotation when viewing the power take-off end of the crankshaft.
