Rebuilding a T-340 transmission/final drive

My T-340 will turn in only one direction after it warms up. I've adjusted the clutch/brake levers as much as I can, but I think the innards are just too worn. How big a job is it to fix this problem and are parts that I might need available? I have a manual and it doesn't look to be too terrible, but I've been fooled by pictures before.

Thanks

Check out the website link, cyberturf.com. It sure helped me when I had to replace a final drive on the TD-340. Of course, the shop manual is a necessity also. Good luck with your crawler, Jim

I used to have some luck getting parts from IHC / Dresser construction equipment dealer.
Replacement of your steering clutch linings is not too bad a job. The pressure plates & linings come right off with the transmission top cover. As I recall, the steering lever releases the clutch and applies the brake for a turn, and clamps down tight to drive straight ahead. The problem you described would happen if the opposite side clutch is not holding tight while you try to turn. Do you have good power to both tracks when pushing straight?

Yes, there doesn't seem to be any slippage in either track with both handles released. When on soft ground both will dig in and slip in the dirt rather than stall. However, the right track seems to go a little faster than the left. When both handles are released the crawler tends to veer slightly to the left, maybe 1 foot every hundred feet of travel. Certainly a problem I can live with though.
