Piston cracks

I've acquired a Volvo truck with a nice Pitman crane and a 20 ft. flatbed on it, problem is that it has broken rings on 1 piston and of course ruined the liner. I will replace this whole assembly, but the other 5 pistons have small cracks in the tops on the flat part of the piston around the perimeter of the bowl, I was only thinking of re-ringing the remaining 5 as there is very little wear evident on the liners, but the pistons threw me a curve. I've saw these same cracks on numerous other engines and have always replaced the pistons but I was using someone else's money then too. My local heavy truck parts place says it's giving me a deal at $350 per liner kit, I can buy ring sets separately but not the piston or liner individually. Thoughts, comments or mabye I shouldn't be so durn cheap??

Check the ring grooves JC. that should tell you a lot. The other 5 might be ready to break some rings too. Is the carbon washed off the top of the liners above the ring travel?
Later Bob

Everything else looks good Bob, I still have a carbon ring above the ring travel, ring grooves all look ok. The engine has 190,000 on it and I have access to another engine with more miles than this one that still runs like a top, I hafta think this one breaking rings was one of those fluke things.
