I have a JD310A that I am fixing up. When the machine gets warmed up the speed will increase on its own. If I am digging and the hand trottle is set to 2000 RPM the engine will start to surge up to 2700 RPM on its own. I have replaced the air and fuel filters. Where should I look for this problem.

TIA
John

Best to send it out to a stanadyne repair center for proper set-up. I've spent as little as $ 350 to as much as $ 600 depending on whats worn out in pump..

The 310-A has an internal governor built into the injection pump. Sounds as if you need to pull the injection pump and get the governor repaired.. All 310's have this governor as do 410's and 510's..

Thanks for the info. Do you need special tools to repair the governer? I have a full machine shop and fab shop so I have just about every tool I can think of...

My 310 doesn't have a governor but then it's a plain 310 not an A. If your hand throttle friction is set, I don't see how the throttle could creep around unless the linkage is loose enough to just let things wander where they will. Anyway, 2700RPM is WAY too fast. I usually dig at 1500 to 1600.
