I've owned a Case 850D for 10 years now.The tractor works almost every day when the weather is good.I'm on my third engine and third under set of rails but have never done anything to the transmission or torque convertor.Lately when I go to run the dozer after it sits more than one day it won't move.If I lift the tractor off the ground using the blade and rippers the tracks will slowly move once I put it in gear. After 5 minutes or so the tracks will build up speed and start running normal with no problems the rest of the day.Any advice is appreciated. Also transmisssion oil pressure is normal. Thanks

James, Just out of curiosity do the tracks start to turn with full power after the transmission oil temperature warms up?

Also I agree that the suction and safety filters should be checked. If they get clogged, it can cause the problem you're having.

tracks do run at full power after about 10 minutes of warm up with transmission in gear however it does seem to take longer in colder weather.filters are all clean.thanks

Jamesh, That's interesting to hear that it's ok after it warms up. I have a post discussing my experience with this (in Understanding Powershift Transmissions), which appears to be similar to yours. But my machine normally will move around alright even if its cold. I think my problem was mostly attributable to low oil level and the tilt of the machine, but on the other hand as the oil temp went up things definitely starting happening as far as torque transfer. Oil temp seems to play at least some role in power transfer, affecting torque converter efficiency and/or clutch pack lockup.

And if both your safety filter and the suction filter are ok, you may want to replace (and check) your transmission oil paper cartridge filter. It may be that it is partially clogged, and oil will not easily flow through it unless the oil gets heated (and thinned) to the point where it will flow past a partially plugged filter more easily. Just a guess, but if the filter hasn't be replaced in a long time it would be a good idea to change it either way.

Good luck...
