case 450 -- 188 questin

i got an early 450 and need another engine for it. will any of the ag tractor engines swap? I been told that some of them have the wrong configuration on the tail shaft side. any info you can share would sure be a help.

I do know that on the case 188 the crank has a spline in the rear for a PTO. The dozer 188 motor probably does not. I have a case backhoe with the 188 that we recently had rebuilt. At the time I needed a new crank and the only one in stock was the splined type and we used it. (even though I don't have a PTO on the backhoe)When dealing with case parts dept they did tell me more thatn once that 188 blocks are all the same. (add getting hard to find$$) You might have to swap oil pans or other compnents but I would guess that the rear bolt pattern would be the same. KEY WORD guess.
