Trying to repair a winch and solve a mystery. It's a 450B with HLR transmission. There are no PTO controls on the floor, just the lever by the seat to operate the winch. The power shaft turns all the time. When trying to locate the PTO control parts, one salvage yard says the winch equipped machines didn't come with a PTO control lever and the shaft is supposed to turn all the time.

The JD dealer says that's wrong. That the HLR machines all have powershafts and when the PTO was ordered they got the control lever with winches too. The op manual doesn't help either. It tells you how to engage the PTO with the lever. Also it tells you how to engage the winch, but doesn't say to first engage the PTO lever. So that didn't answer my question. I don't know if they are assuming you have read the op manual and know you need to engage the PTO before the winch or if the salvage yard is right.

Have a 450C shop manual and it says PTO was optional. It would seem if the shaft did turn all the time, it would rob engine power.

Can you guys with winches or dealer techs out there tell me if yours has the floor PTO lever? Also, need the control lever parts if anyone has them. Would prefer to be able to disengage the power shaft. Thanks.

Forget it. I now know which models have the direct drive and which have PTO controls like the back of my hand, and who has the best deal on parts.
