Alan, I'm a crawler amateur and a first time crawler owner like you, I'll try and give you some pointers, but please keep in mind I am an amateur so take what I say with a grain of salt. First, when you say the fluid is hot, what fluid is hot? It sounds like you're saying the hydraulic fluid is hot (and not the transmission oil)? If so that may mean you have a problem with your hydraulic system. Possibly a damaged hydraulic pump, or a restriction somewhere in the hydraulic plumbing can cause the pump to run hot and prevent the hyd system from functioning properly. You need to get a manual and learn about your hydraulic system (and dozer in general). There are various filters (and "safety" filters) that screen out particulates. If these get clogged they can restrict hyd flow, causing a heat buildup. If the problem you're describing is in the transmission, then you may be losing transmission/converter oil pressure (assuming your machine is a powershift) when the machine is tilted. There may be a problem with the pickup tube in the tranny, and/or again one or more of the filters are clogged. Powershift machines usually have several filters for the transmission oil. Two of them are called suction filter and safety filter. If any of these filters gets clogged it can restrict oil flow to the torque converter and to the clutch packs inside the transmission which can result in a stopped crawler (and heat buildup because of a cavitating oil pump and slipping internal clutch packs). Find these filters and check them. And if you run your dozer again keep a close eye on transmission oil pressure. See if it drops off when your machine stops moving. Although I wouldn't recommend running it anymore without checking all the basic stuff first (and having a pro look at it too).
