This post may not belong here, and if so I apologize. I have a truck with a 3116 Cat engine. It is a 215 horse power. I see this engine in several horse power ratings all the way up to 350. My question is what has to be done to change my 215 to 275 or 300 horse power? Is it in the fuel management or deeper in the engine?

You could turn up the fuel to it probably a couple of rounds this is done often at our dealership on dozers and skidders at a gain of about 15hp or so helps the guys burn more fuel and helps overheat their engines because they wont keep the radiators clean there is a epa fine for on highway trucks I think its $10k the internals could be different check the spec sheet go to the dealer and have them check TMI on your engine I would leave it alone you will not notice 15hp I promise

Dave, the fuel settings can be changed to get various Hp's Maybe the governer and turbo aswell. Ask the dealer what is involved in your case, the answer is on the "perf spec" sheet. You have to think about the rest of the truck too and make sure it was put out with 300 hp and can take it, Don't want to twist a frame now.
Later Bob
