Help with JD 500C loader??

Hi everyone, I finally sold the old Dynahoe and got something I could work on and find parts for a bit easier. I have a 1981 John Deere model 500C loader Backhoe and the machine was well maintained and in good condition. The front loader boom and bucket seem to slowly move down on there own when raised. At times this is slower or faster. At first I thought maybe the fluid is leaking by in the cylinders as I have seen this before in single cylinders but in this case both cylinders would have to be leaking by the cup seals and I don't think thats it. So I believe it is probably leaking by within the loader and bucket control valves or probably just the orings inside?? Am I on the right track and how could I hook up a gauge or some other way of knowing for sure?? Lastly, where can I find JD OEM parts for a good price and a repair amnual for this?? Thanks very much!!

I'd lean towards the cylinder packings in one or both being the culprit. if only one of the 2 clinders were leaking internally, it would still settle as they are joined together after the valve port. Each cylinder (left and right)does not have its own oil ports on the control valve. The only orings on the valve spools prevent external leakage. There are no seals other than close-tolerance machining on the spools.

Hmm, I was convinced that both cylinders cups would have to be faulty in order for this to happen but just one leaking by can allow it to lower on it's own?? It's worse sometimes than other times.... How would one figure out which cylinder is in need of cup seals?? My rods look fantastic in comparison to my old Dynahoe rods which were horrible with dented cylinders etc and they held!! So I just couldn't blame them on the JD.
