I'm going to build a new house and want a backhoe around during construction. I bought a 7 ac tract and it will require a good bit of grading, ditches, water lines, footings, and will need a loader to put plywood/ stuff up to roof level. I have looked at several,ie ford 555A-case 580C-JD310A- Ford 3400-Ford 4500. I have also found a big Dyna-hoe. The Case,Fords,JD all were fairly rough, The 555 and the 310 ran and worked good, tires good. The Dyna-Hoe is in much better condition, paint, tires, overall apperance. I will be selling whichever machine, after the house is complete. My question is how much money difference would you folks think is reasonable, since the Dyna-Hoe is a " offbrand"? I have bought and sold several hoes/loaders/dozers/skidsteers ect. over the years, but have never owned a Dyna-Hoe, so don't know the price difference. I do know the if you compared the ford 555 to a ford 555 that is in the condition of the Dyna-Hoe, it would be worth 1500-2000 more than the rougher one. I also know a comparable 555 would be worth more than a Dyna-Hoe in the same condition. If I were going to keep it it woildn't make any difference, sense the old Dyna-Hoe are tough, slow machines but knowing I want to sell after the job is done how much will being "offbrand" hurt the sale of the Dyna-Hoe? Anyone have any ideas, or opinions? Thanks, Nat

Nate, I own both a Ford 555 2wd & a Dynahoe 200 which is the big one with a 4-71 detroit & 4 wd. Both machines perform very well for their intended purposes. The Ford is better for doing most of the everyday tasks but the Dynahoe gets used for the tougher ones. I"m not sure what model Dynahoe you are looking at but I would recomend a 190 fwd or a 490 fwd they are a bit smaller than the 200 and more manuverable and built like tanks. You also cannot go wrong with a Ford 555 4wd either it may just take a bit longer to do some of the bigger jobs. Mike

Mike thanks, The dynahoe I'm looking at is a 180, I think. it's 2WD w/ detroit 353. The 555 is also 2WD. All I'll use either one for is clearing a few thickets, water lines, footings, culverts, ect. then will resale. dynahoe is cheaper, and in better condition, and has a thumb. The biggest concern is how hard will the Dynahoe be to sale?

Well,I went and looked at the Dynahoe, Godamighty that thing is heavy. It's a 160 in real good condition, but slow as seven yesr itch. Real bulky to move around, but plenty of power. The seller had a bunch of souther yellow pines about 16" across the stunp and was going to push 1 over, it broke off about 2' above ground. I dug the stump out with it and it would lift the front end off the ground just crowding the bucket in. No brakes at all, and if they did work they were not individual wheel, 1 pedal stopped both back wheels. The dynahoe is 1 tough strong machine, but to slow and bulky for my needs, so I quess I'll get the 555

My 1969 160 series B was a good tough strong machine, until I neded parts. Everything was an oddball and I had to machine things larger or modify them. Everything was hard to find also. It was nice to operate and masssive but not worth the trouble. They were not designed to be worked on - in my opinion - as everything is huge, heavy and buried in there somewhere behind a boatload of tubes, bolts and brackets. I think anyone is much better off with a JD, Case, Ford or other backhoes out there. Good luck in your purchase!!!
