I started getting a leak in my backhoe control valves for my John Deere 310a backhoe/loader. After looking at the parts diagrams it looks like mostly alot of o-rings. Are the o-rings normal buna-n type like you can get at the local farm supply or automotive supply?

Also does anyone know the WOT RPM of this machine?

Thanks
John

Please go to your local Deere Dealer.. I would rather do the job once instead or guessing. Before you order parts pull theworst leaking spool out and look for missing chrome on the valve spool. If so,an o-ring isn't going to last very long..WOT is 2500

Turns out that the JD dealer (tractor dealer) had the o-rings. It was the o-ring on the top and I did not have to take the valve body apart. I only had to put a 3/4" split collar on the spool and hold that with channel locks while I unscrewed the top and replace the o-ring. It had failed because the top had unscrewed about a 1/4 of a turn.

Thanks again
John

That clevis on top of the valve spool needs to be lock-tited with thread locker medium strength. It will come loose again if you don't clean it with brake cleaner and lock-tite it.

Thanks a million Roy. You are a guru on this 310a. Do you have one or do you work at a dealer? I have been watching e-bay for a year now trying to get a shop manual on this machine...

I did remove 4 of the clevis tops from the valves to rebuild the worn out holes (weld them up and machine them back to orig). I thought I noticed a hint of locktite on the other 3 clevis tops. But the leaker was clean for sure. I have it back together now with the levers all rebuilt and the fuel injection pump will be done today. The fuel injection repair man said that the pump was not bad but full of crud. He did say that the ball from the check valve on the return line was missing and that it might be logded in the return line. I'll check that out today. He said that can cause surging engine speed as well as a bad govener. Any way I'll need to finish this 600 foot ditch and get the pipe in then take the clevis tops back off and locktite them when I get the machine back to the shop.

Thanks again John
