Hello, can you patch the hole? My dad did one time and rebuilt the motor and never had any problems with it. He used a copper plate and sealed it and put the nuts on the out side, The car was an Old Hudson Hornet with two two barrels on it . It would run, The company I work for has welded many patches on those old D-9 Cats. My 2cents worth. Jack

that is an idea. i just wonder what kind of other damage has occured to the block when the rod turned loose. i reckon i'll neeed a machine shop to look it over good.

i bet that hornet was thirsty too!

Mud,

The later 450's had the consolidated diesel from the factory , Don't knowhow much blacksmithing
it would take to install one. I guess the question is 'why' , as the 188 or in later models the 207 is a great engine for
that tractor . It has plenty of power to spin the
tracks with a blade full or even while prying on
a stump.

my block has a hole in it the size of my fist. to the right of the fuel filters. connecting rod came loose and poked its head out there. i would like to replace it with a 188 or 207 but have not been able to find a compatable one. seems like those 188's where built a little differant for the ag tractors. all the industrial 188 engines i find are tall dollars. that made me get to thinkin about looking at another engine.

i like that 188. seems as though they are scarce and pricey though. fellers want more for them than i paid for the machine 10 years ago.

with a little imagination you can always make something fit. it may not be ideal, but it may save a piece of equipment and not bust the budget. for tools to use in the refit, i recommend a cutting torch, and a feeler gauge.

i agree that it may not be ideal. thats been my worry with the idea. i can't afford what they want for a running 188. i been looking for a year now. maybe its time to look at other engines and start measuring.
