Doe's anyone know what kind of fluid goes in the power steering on a 450,or is it supposed to get it's own fluid from the trans or engine? Thanks,Rick

Well it is supposed to be the transmission type hydraulic fluid but I use 15W40 motor oilin mine.

The reason is that the bearing on the steering pump sooner or later begin to leak back into the engine crankcase, so a little extra motor oil doesent hurt the engine but the hydraulic oil might. This of course eventuall leaves the power steering resevoir empyt and the crankcase over filled. So, I aran a small line off tjhe pressure sending unit to dribble oil into the resevoir so the oil not just circulates through it and back into the crankcase. With a cutoof valve in the line I can regualate the flow so the little tank doesnt overfloww and spi;lll oil over the engine.

Its a stop gap measeure but it beat pulloing tyhe ole front ende off to repalace those seals and bearing. Next time I naeed to have the fron off I will of course do that too.
