i have an old Little Giant track hoe that I am trying to restore . The bevel gears that run the crawler tracks had been skipping and wore the teeth down bad ! Any ideas how to repair them , or source for replacements ? Tried Martin Gear , but couldn't mathc anything up . Little Giant didn't have anything avail for that old of a machine . Possible to weld them up ? Thanks Bryan

Bryan,

I have a Little Giant 38A1 cable backhoe as well. Several years ago, I broke a tooth off the swing pinion. I tried Little Giant (like you) and no dice on a replacement. I also tried a couple of weld shops and they didn't want to take a chance on it.

Finally, I had no choice but weld it myself. I used a rod called Super Missile Weld. It worked great. It was expensive, but anything good always is.

I don't know if the bevel gears are made of the same material, but it may be worth a try. The bevel gears were changed on my machine at some point in time, as the old ones are still laying in a corner of the house. Like yours, they are quite worn.

I have owned my LG for about 15 years. I used it to dig the foundation of my home and also dig the utility trenches and clear land. Great machine, smooth and powerful.

What model is yours?

Regards,
Scott Goff
