Just looked at a JD 450. Track good, engine tight, Hyd not leaking, paint NOT like my caddy. Guy is asking $9000!! Is this within reason as I will probably use this for a few weeks and then sell. Thanks all of you smarter than I.

Craig

Craig,

Is this a B, C or D? Year? Loader or dozer? 4 in 1, 6-way, rippers, hoe, winch? Low or high hour tractor? It's hard to give a value on a tractor based on someones description. I think I would also rent or hire out if you only need it for a few weeks. In my area you can rent a brand new dozer or loader of this size for around $4000 a month. You could rack up a repair bill of over what you paid for it very quickly if it has problems. Just my 2 cents. -Mark

If you're just going to use it for a few weeks, I'd rent one or hire the work out. Owning for such a small job seems like a lot of trouble, you probably won't make much if anything on resale at that price, assuming nothing breaks (yeah, right).

In have to agree with you guys. The 450's, before the C series, were noted to crack the trans case ahead of the final drive, usually on the right side. Many maachines have been bought and sold here in western NY with cracked trans housings, and not discoveed until that little leak becomes a pond. Rent a dozer.
