I am looking at a TD14A for sale, it has a nice umdercarriage and runs but the left steering clutch lever is frozen and the brake pedal also will not move. I am new to crawlers and was considering this beast for moving some material around the property. Does this just sound like frozen linkage or other issues? What are some things to look at when considering one of these machines? I think the price is good at $2000. Any suggestions?

IH crawlers are famous for steering clutch packs rusting together after setting for periods of time Go over to Red Power Forum I can post pics of what you maybe up against. If they don"t brake loose you will have to get greasy to fix this. also if clutch is stuck and needs parts there are 13 discs @ 25.00 each in there and this may make 2000.00 a little steep for this machine

That’s good advice Roy is giving, if you can’t get it to free up, you are not sure what you are getting....,and if it turns bad while you are trying to free them up offer a lot less or walk. I would want to have a tractor that is work wise, instead of one that I had to work on all the time. Finding parts and there cost is in some cases are devastating for those older tractors. I know, it sounds good at first….but.

Save yourself a lot of grief. Take a spray bomb of PB Blaster with you and free-up the linkage for your own piece of mind.. I've run into machines that linkage was rusted and it wore out the brake bands on both sides. If you can't get the linkage to release doing this you might have an internal rust problem or worse..
