I just acquired a Hough 30 loader backhoe that hasn't run in 2 years. It has a 6 cyl. deisal engine that isn't stuck. The previous owner said it was running rough and he just shut it off and walked away. (He had finished the work he bought it for, and didn't need it anymore) I've never worked on a diesal before. Where should I start to get this beast running smooth?

Try fuel filters first.. See if there is a good flow of fuel at the filter housing, might be a blockage of dirt in fuel shut-off. Is there a fuel pump that might be kaput or maybe an electric fuel pump that might have lost power.
