First I want to thank Roy Suomi for his great help in getting my JD 310A Backhoe/Loader running so good. To recap I have replaced the fuel transfer pump and had the fuel injection/govener rebuild and replaced the air and fuel filters. The engine starts very well and runs smooth and it digs good with all the work I have done on the cylinders and controls. My biggest problem is the WOT RPM. I only get about 2200 RPM at wide open throttle. This is fine for digging as I prefer to dig at 2000 RPM. But, for road travel (I don't have a trailer) I would like to get the 2500 RPM. I have checked that the linkage to the fuel injection pump are moving the throttle lever on the pump to full throttle. Is there any adjustment on the fuel injection pump that controls the WOT RPM?

Thanks
John

That engine will handle 2500 with no problem. There is a throttle stop on the injector pump . If you watch the travel of throttle at the pump you will notice a spring on the arm. that spring " gives " so that the throttle can't jam against the stop. there is a bolt on that arm with a jam nut. that is your high speed adjustment...Set it at 2400-2500 at WOT

2200RPM is max high idle for your engine. You can readjust your high idle stop, but this could lead to a rod making a hole in the block which would make road travel VERY slow.

The fuel injection pump is marked 2500 RPM. The fuel injection guy told me that the WOT on that same pump for a tractor is 2200 RPM. It would take a lot more than 300 RPM to put a rod out of the side of the crankcase.
