I recently changed the dipper cylinder and it worked OK for about 10 minutes. Now I don't seem to have hydraulic flow but I have pressure. Everything works in slow motion. I am new to this machine and don't have any manuals. Also the oil level is OK. Is there a sensor problem or a filter clogged? What I have been told by someone that this is a center closed system. Any help would be apprieciated.

Hey Skip... Did someone forget to remove a rag??I've seen that before.. One of my customers had his Deere 690-B trackhoe on a demolition job. While swinging they noticed oil all over the track and shut it diwn before any damage occurred. Lucky , HUH ?? A piece of rebar punctured the oil pan. , so they removed the pan and had it repaired. They installed the pan and filled it , started it, and promptly turned a main bearing on the crankshaft.. They left a rag on the oil pick-up. Well, I got to work on it anyway..

Can you steer and lift the loader bucket without loosing steering ?? If not, you might have a problem in the presure relief valve [ priority valve ] under the hood.. Get a deere manual and go through the system testing section . It will walk you thru testing and eliminating potential problems. This is no simple hydraulic system. You need to get the manual and follow it to a " T "..

Roy I talked to my son who was using the machine at the time and he said the steering would go out also and become choppy. He said the brakes were not there when this happened but stop for a moment and the brakes would come back. I think it is a problem with the priorty valve as you said. Would a air pocket that the new cylinder probibly provided cause this problem? Is there a way to bleed the system?

Roy I will have to check about the steering because my sons were using it when this problem occured. One problem with getting a manual is the machine tag is missing and if the serial number is needed for the manual I'm stuck. Keep an eye on this thread because it will take me a couple of days to check out the steering and let you know. Thanks for the advise.

"changed the cylinder"...with what ?? Another cylinder ? do you know whwre it came from ?? it may have internal problems. You say it has the pressure (power) ...but no speed (flow) which would lead me to believe there is something lodged in one of the lines that originated from this cylinder....why was it replaced ?? is there "remnants" of the old cylinder that are causing the problem ???

Jonathan I had a new ram put into the original cylinder because the old ones crome was chipped off causing major leakage. The problem is with all hydraulics on the machine and the cylinder change was a coincindence, I hope. The cylinder was off for three days. Thanks for all the ideas.

Remember when you change a cylinder, the cylinder has to fill up which comes right out of your tank level, unless you topped it up, it maybe a little low, this is what usually slows my machines down. I don't know if air locks are possible but I have disconnected the pipe on one end and fill the cylinder. If you have air in the cylinder instead of oil, it will compress and be slow. Like I say unless you were overfilled previously or topped it up, you must be low, top 'er up....Mike

Mike will the air eventually purge? I did top the tank off after the problem arose, but it didn't need much. Are there filters to be changed?
