My Case 850 was getting hot all summer so I removed the thermostat to help keep it cool. Now winter has suddenly arrived and I need to get the dozer out of the snow. Can I safely start the tractor without the thermostat in cold weather to get it home or should I put a thermostat in first? Thanks

You can start it to get it home James but you should check out the fan belts, rad temp drop etc to fix the real problem. Pulling the thermostat can cause over heating on some machines.

Sounds like your radiator may need cleaning? Radiators get filled with dust because of all that air that moves thru them. I wash mine regularly with a garden hose. Also, after about five thousand hours the cooling system requires flushing and a fluid change.

Your oil and/or hydraulic cooler needs washing too. If your radiators are oil or hydraulic soaked? Then you may have to use a degreaser to really get them clean.
