I have a customer with a Deere 440 dozer he just purchased. I wants to know if the elec. system is positive or negative ground. We have no info here at the dealership on these. The dozer has a 2-53 Detroit engine. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. The cables were gone along with the battery when he got the dozer so he had nothing else to go on. Thanks again for the info.

Like Bob says, or just let your customer check out the battery, if fitted. It will one or the other to ground, somewhere near the battery, or he could put a put voltmeter across earth and starter motor feed to check polarity.

Doug, If it has a generator and regulator set up, look at the regulator. Clean off the metal base and it should be stamped with a number like 12 for 12 volts and a P or N for the ground polarity.
Later Bob
