Bought a beautiful T-9 at estate auction, old timers said I did real good! Has recent industrial yellow paint job,12 volt conversion, new hydraulic pump & hoses,Old timer told me UC is 90%,has a 10 ft.pullman plow blade, branch cage, rear swing draw bar,H.D.radiator, belly, & sprocket guards. Starts easy, runs sweetly! However, the ol, girl hasn"t been exercised in six to twelve months and now she wont do lefty righty. two different old timers gave me two different suggestions. One, (run the corner of the blade into a stump at highest speed while pulling back on steer lever.)Which lever for which corner? How many times?Till the engine stalls?Am I going break her? Two,(Remove cage, seat, battery, deck plating, access steering clutch compartment, plug drain holes, fill steering clutch compartment with, it was either solvent or kerosene can"t remember witch.)For how long?then what? Thoughts, comments, suggestions, please! Things were busy at the auction no time for details. I stole her for 1,200

I"ve run into the frozen steering clutch thing a time or 2.... If you can get the machine out in a field lay out some logs & run"em over while pulling back on the steering clutches. Gives the same driveline shock without the breakage that sometimes comes with running the machine into things in higher gear. Just my exp.../luck?????

If clutches are bonded, you have to remove them, clean them up /replace.The IH aren't as big a pain to work on as some, coz you can access clutches thru top of case. There's lotsa good info at Redpower Magazine site...guys are doing this job & showing pics too.I have a manual available.Sounds like a good buy for you...just a little work needed.

I would recommend the kerosene. After you fill the clutch compartment (up to the bottom of the throwout bearing), run it under load (trying to steer it) until it breaks free. Then drain the kerosene, and run it until it dries out. You may have to adjust the clutch a little while doing this. This has worked well for me in the past. Good luck!
