I have a JD 50 mini-excavator. Noticed that the zerk fitting on one of the bushings for the hydraulic cyclinder (dipper arm) will not accept grease. I replaced the zerk fitting thinging that the check ball was rusted shut. What else can I do without having to disasemble the pin and bushing?

Ron, you've already been given good advice. To avoid this problem in the future, always grease your machine as soon as you're done using it, so that all the dirt and water is pushed out of it while everything is warm and loose and doesn't have a chance to sit.

That gizmo is called a " Ram-o " tool. They work sweet..I have one in my service truck and another in my tool box at work. Simple to use, suck up oil like a hypodermic , place " Ram-o" on a straight grease fitting , and wallop it with a suitable hammer.. Wear safety glasses, sometimes there is a spray of oil if you slip off kilter a little..

I've had good luck with taking the zerk out and scraping whatever hard crud I could out of the hole. Then taking a zerk and removing the check valve out of it (need to grind the top some because they are hard). I then put a piece of tubing over the zerk and fill it with Kroil. This usually frees them up enough to where I can pump grease through them again.

They also sell a gizmo that you strike with a hammer and it forces the grease through under higher pressure. I've never had to try one though.
