I just got my loader in on the 20th. Just like the guy said that I bought it from the left track had no power. It would freewheel. We pulled it off the trailer with a tractor. On these machines the steering is done with what seems to be a valve block sitting atop the diff case. It looks to me as though the left valve is stuck inside the block. Do these valves act like a master cylinder in a car or are they valves that let hyd oil pass when opened to activate the clutches. I have ordered a service manual for this machine but it will not arrive for about a week. I have the back end off the machine for inspection of the brakes and clutches. Any advice on this machine will be appreciated.

Jay, they should have a pump in the unit and they are just a booster to assist you releasing the clutch. If the left side has no drive it could be anything from the final drive right up to the shaft driving into the clutch. If the LH lever can be pulled back easily compared to the RH you may have to take the cover off the clutch and see what's wrong in there. Is it a 20 A machine?

Hey Bob the s/n is 20A2214. Thanks for responding to my ? The piston that is connected to the clutch handle is bottomed out in the housing. The guy I bought it from had left the clutch housing top covers off for quite some time. The clutches are covered with oil dirt and grease. I would like to remove the clutches and brakes just so I can clean and repair any problems. Can the clutches be taken out without removing the finals from the machine 1st. Thanks to all who respond.

Jay, I think they will come out one at a time but not sure. Take a look inside and there should be a large flange on the outer side of each and a smaller flange on the inner side of each. If so disconnect the brake band then take out the flange bolts and lift them out. Watch out for the side the piston is bottomed on incase a spring is loaded up and lets go on you. It's good to take them out and apart. Many dry clutches rust up and will not release. To get at all of the flange bolts just pull the machine along with something and turn them up to get at them.
