Just brought home my Cat 307B. The question is it has a button on the console with a fuel pump symbol on it. It only toggles if you push on it and when you let go it returns to original position. The dealer salesman or service manager don"t know what it is or does. I thought perhaps ether starting but being its from Japan they don"t think so. It has a glow plug. When depressed nothing changes, no engine rpm or pump speeds. Would it be a fuel primer or something. Open to quesses. Kevin

Well the button was a fuel primer. With the key on and engine off we could hear the primer pump run and so when we changed the fuel filter thats what we used and it worked great. When I told the guys at the dealership they said they had heard they were putting them on some new machines but this is a 99 so that surprised them. Thanks for the input guys, now if I could find a 7'3" stick for it. Kevin

What is the machine serial number and the engine serial number. I run into things like this a lot at the Cat dealership I work at.

It might be Kevin, the newer machines with fuel filters mounted upside down and hard to bleed have an electric pump for priming them. It will only work when the engine is not running. Have someone hit the button while you listen around the engine for something like that. Some machines had a fueling pump to pump fuel into the tank but I have not seen one.
