What is the going rate charged per hour for a good TD-8E with operator?I have stated my owen ecxavating buisnes about a year and a half ago.I am able to get work whith out any problem, sometimes to much work.Sometimes it seems to be the hardest part of the job knowing what to charge.Don't want to over charge but don't want to short my self. Can't hardly ask the competition either.Asked to give bids on complet jobs as well.Is this better than just working by the hour.I guess like operating it will get better with time.Seem to be making some money and keeping up with maint.and repairs.Doing something I have allways wanted to do and enjoying it very much.

Our bulldozer guy gets 85 an hour. Thats for him, his cat 943 trackloader and bobcat T100 skid loader. He should be making 100 an hour, but he charges 85. Hope this gives you an idea. PD Mechanical has good advice as far as pros/cons of charging by hour as opposed to job.

Up here in NY the going rate for a dozer of that size is around $65-$75 per hr. Usually depends on operator experience. As far as pricing an entire job goes, be careful. Pricing by the hr. your pretty much guaranteed a fair price for the job. However, if you price the job and you overlook something or come across something additional later it could really hurt the pocket book. If you must price by the job just remember to tack on and additional amount for any unforseen circumstances. Sometimes this can be as much as 25%. Then when the job is done and you've come in under what you figured you can always bill the customer for a little less. They usually like that. Not many times your quoted a price and the job actually ends up costing less.
Good luck
